The Centre has asked all universities to revise the syllabi of psychology as the prevalent course contents commonly taught in the classrooms were not “rooted in the national ethos.”
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has shared with the varsities a model syllabi for the subject, seeking them to use it in revising their course contents.
“It is requested that the same (model syllabi) may be perused and suitably adopted in the Psychology courses run by your esteemed university and the affiliated colleges,” UGC secretary P K Thakur said in an official communication to the vice chancellors of universities.
The University Grants Commission constituted the experts committee to look into different aspects of teaching and research in psychology and draft a model syllabus for psychology after it was brought to its notice that the syllabus for the subject being followed at country’s
varsities “was neither keeping pace with the recent developments in the discipline nor fulfilling the societal needs.”
