Siby Mathews, a former DGP rank officer of Kerala, was granted anticipatory bail in the CBI case regarding the alleged conspiracy in the over 25-year-old ISRO espionage case of Kerala.

The Thiruvananthapuram principal sessions court granted anticipatory bail on Tuesday despite strong objections of CBI as well as ISRO former scientist Nambi Narayanan and two Maldivian women who faced allegations of espionage.

The Kerala High Court had earlier granted anticipatory bail to four former police and IB officers, including former Gujarat DGP R B Sreekumar, who was also arraigned in the CBI case. The HC had also maintained that prima facia there was no evidence that the accused acted against the interest of the country.

After being acquitted of the charges of espionage, Narayanan had moved the court seeking action against the police and intelligence officials. Subsequently, the apex court ordered a CBI probe.
