It’s an eerie coincidence that this is the second time such an incident has happened in Mumbai when the Indian cricket team had been involved in a series with England. In 2008, a seven-match one-day series in India had to be cut short after a terror attack in the city.
Wednesday’s explosions and their impact may have been much lower but that is hardly a consolation for the players, many of whom have a special attachment to the city.
Indian skipper MS Dhoni, voicing the sentiment of the team said: “I think it’s very sad wherever it happens, whether in an Indian city or outside of India,” said Dhoni when asked about his reaction. Hopefully we will see that such things don’t happen in the future. It’s really a sad day,” he said.
The Indian captain hoped Mumbai will get back on its feet as it has in the past. “Mumbai has shown great resilience in the past whenever such things have happened. We are really hopeful that they will show the same spirit again,” he remarked.
