Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Prakash Javadekar on Tuesday invited views and suggestions from all sections of the society on formulation of a new education policy while delivering a key note address at an event organised by a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) affiliate to discuss the topic.

He described the ongoing move to formulate a new policy as a “national mission” of the Narendra Modi government to ensure that a quality education remains available to “one and all” in the country, reiterating that education was not a topic for politics. The Union minister also sought to send out a message that his participation in event should be seen through a political lens as it was organised by Bhartiya Shikshan Mandal (BSM), a RSS affiliate.

Making suggestion for the new policy, former director of the National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) J S Rajput, who was also a member in the new education drafting committee set up by the HRD Ministry, pitched for teaching of the “basics of all religions” to students to inculcate sense of values and religious harmony in them.

BMS organisation secretary Mukul Kanitkar pitched for Indianisation of education, suggesting for giving greater autonomy to teachers, principals and vice chancellors.
