Aspiring engineers who passed their class XII board with only four subjects in 2012 and 2013 can take the joint entrance examination (JEE)-Main for admission to Centrally funded technical institutions next year, with the apex board organising the nation-wide test deciding to allow them.
Earlier, only those candidates were eligible for the test who had passed their class XII board examinations with five subjects in 2012 and 2013. The JEE apex board had even warned candidates against taking the test on furnishing wrong information with regard to the number of subjects taken at class XII board, saying their results will not be declared.
Such candidates, if appearing in examination for improvement in the scores secured in the four subjects in 2014, will also be considered eligible.
They, however, will get only one chance to inform JEE (Main) Unit as to which year of their qualifying examination marks should be considered, a Central Board of SecondaryEducation (CBSE) official told Deccan Herald.
The relaxation in class XII subjects, however, will not be available to candidates who are appearing for the board examination in 2014. They will have to take at least five subjects in order to be eligible for JEE (Main)- 2014.
The five subjects, which include Language, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry/Biology/Biotechnology/Technical Vocational, and any other subject, will be taken into account for calculation of candidates’ percentile and normalisation of qualifying examination marks.
The JEE-Main aspirants can avail only three attempts. A candidate can attempt JEE –Advanced a maximum of two times in consecutive years irrespective of whether he or she passed the qualifying examination or not.
Those who have attempted IIT-JEE in 2012 or earlier are not eligible to take the JEE –Advanced, conducted for admission to Indian Institutes of Technology and other elite technical institutes.
The JEE-Main is scheduled to be conducted in pen and paper mode on April 6, 2014, both for B tech/BE and B Architecture/B Planning. The JEE apex body has made arrangements for the online test at 265 cities across the country only for BE/BTech aspirants. The online tests will be conducted on April 9, 11, 12 and 19 in 2014.
The score of Paper I of JEE (Main) – 2014 for all candidates will be declared by May 3, 2014. This score will comprise the actual marks obtained in Paper I of JEE (Main) – 2014 along with the status of those who qualify for appearing for JEE (Advanced) – 2014 provided and subject to other conditions of eligibility being met.
On the basis of score in JEE (Main)-2014 and score of Class XII board, to be normalised by the organisers by a certain formula, a separate all India rank lists will be prepared for admission to institutions other than the IITs. This will be declared by July 7, 2014.
The JEE apex board has been decided that no score or rank card will be dispatched to the candidates from 2014. Candidates will have to download their score or rank cards from the JEE –Main website only.
