The move is apparently aimed at offsetting the impact of hike in jet fuel charges. Other carriers are also set to follow suit. A Jet statement said on Friday: “With the latest hike in ATF prices, Jet Airways has decided to increase its fuel surcharge by Rs 200 per domestic sector. This (hike) will be applicable on all flights of Jet Airways, Jet Konnect and JetLite, for sale and travel effective Saturday.”

The oil marketing companies on Thursday increased aviation fuel prices by 2.5 per cent, at Rs 57,689 per kilolitre in the national capital, in their fortnightly review of international oil prices.

The 2.5 per cent hike would mean about Rs 5 crore of extra expense per month on fuel bill for each airline. “Hence the Rs 200 hike, to offset the aviation turbine fuel price increase effect,” said an airline official.
