Rajya Sabha MP Ram Jethmalani has come out in open for projecting Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi as the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate in coming general election. The eminent lawyer believes that the hindutva mascot is a “victim of diabolical propaganda” due to which he was projected as an “anti-minority bigot”.

Jethamalani wrote a letter to BJP chief Niting Gadkari on September 27, when the party’s Surajkund conclave was on, suggesting three things the party needs to do to convince the electorate in the run-up campaign to 2014 elections.

“..I would want Narendra Modi whose integrity and administrarive ability are not in doubt. He has been a victim of diabolical propaganda directed to projecting him as an anti-minority bigot.  This undeserved black spot is easy to erase. Every aspiring candidate should do some sincere introspection and discover his own disqualifications,” Jethmalani, who has taken up many cases of accused Muslims in terrorism cases, recommended.

His views run contrary to the stated stand of Gadkari who has ruled out projecting any leader as the PM candidate.

His letter is unlikely to be music to Gadkari’s ears as he has raised uncomfortable issues for the party and to the president also.
