The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) hostel administration has threatened more than 50 students that it may stop providing them food and even consider their eviction from the hostel if they fail to clear their dues as early as possible. This has kicked up a fresh row on the campus.
This comes a day after the university administration denied reimbursement of fellowship to research scholar Shweta Raj, convenor of the JNU Student Union in the school of languages, on the ground that she had been debarred in connection with holding of a controversial event in the memory of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru on the campus on February 9.
The JNUSU claimed that the university administration also denied fellowship to Rama Naga, the general secretary of the students union facing sedition charge, on the similar ground.
“When he (Naga) went to inquire about the delay in fellowship disbursal, he found out that no office order for fellowship has been issued in his name,” AISA activist Mohit said in a statement.
Shweta and Naga were among eight students who were suspended on the basis of a university’s probe committee on the February 9 event on the campus.
Satlaj hostel administration has issued five notices to a total of 54 students since March 4, asking them to clear their dues of the hostel mess.
