There was all round jubilation at Paronkha, the native village of Ramnath Kovind, in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur Dehat district on Friday after he emerged victorious in the presidential polls with a handsome margin.

People in large numbers gathered at his ancestral house in the village and sang songs and danced in joy.

A special 'puja' was also performed at the village temple. Special prayers were also held at the mosque in the village.

People had started gathering before Kovind's house since the morning after news of his lead over his rival Meira Kumar started trickling in.

People also celebrated Kovind's victory at his residence at Indira Nagar locality in Kanpur town. The residents lighted earthen lamps and candles to express their joy.
