Nine CISF jawans were today arrested for their involvement in the June 10 violent clash with AAI employees at nearby Karipur airport which led to the death of a CISF jawan, police said.

"We have handed over the nine jawans to the police now," Deputy Commandant of the central armed force, Daniel Dhanraj told PTI.

Police also confirmed that the nine personnel were handed over by CISF authorities and charged under IPC sections including 147 (punishment for rioting), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty).

"The nine persons were produced by their authorities this evening," said Investigating Officer B Santosh, also Circle Inspector of Kondotty police station near here.

They will be produced before the Manjeri CJM court in Malappuram district tomorrow, he said.
On June 17, CISF had sought time till yesterday to hand over their personnel to police.

Ten Airports Authority of India staff and 13 CISF personnel, including the nine jawans handed over today, have so far been arrested in connection with the violent incidents.

The clash was a sequel to a dispute on security clearance of AAI staff which resulted in the death of the jawan when a gun went off accidentally in the melee.
