A division bench, comprising Justices V Gopala Gowda and B S Patil, declined to grant any relief to the government on its Interlocutory application for more time and reiterated that its February 11 order directing it to complete the election by March 30 holds good.
The state government had approached the Supreme Court challenging the Feb 11 order and the apex court had declined to interfere.

The state government again approached the High Court seeking extension of time on the ground that examinations were to be held in schools and staff in all departments were busy with the budget session and reservation of wards could not be completed before Feb 20 as stipulated the Court.

However, the state government has furnished a draft list of wards with reservations redone.

The petitioners opposed the interlocutory application seeking extension of time on the ground that reasons stated were "flimsy and not reasonable".
