11 killed in road mishap in Karnataka's DharwadSeven were critically injured and have been hospitalised

In a major road accident, 12 persons, including nine women and two men, were killed near Dharwad on Friday when a tempo traveller in which they were travelling collided head-on with a tipper truck.

The vehicle was carrying nearly 20 doctors and their family members.

The accident occurred at 7 am near Itigatti cross on Pune-Bengaluru national highway bypass, off Dharwad.

Seven were critically injured and have been hospitalised. The passengers were on their way to Goa from Davanagere. Sources told DH that they were doctors of a private hospital in Davangere.

It was later reported that those who died in the road mishap were residents of Vidyanagara, MCC A and B blocks in Davangere city.

It is said that they were former students of St Paul convent in the city. They were heading towards Goa in a tempo traveller. The deceased include doctors Veena Prakash, Preethi Ravi Kumar.
