Seventeen years after Al-Qaeda militants flew into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City that left about 3,000 dead on September 11, 2001, Mysuru’s connection with the militants has come to light.

It has now been established that Abu Zobaida, one of the accused in the incident, was a student of Sarada Vilas College during 1989-1991 and studied Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Arabic and English.

The US-based media organisation, aljazeera.com, quotes Zobaida’s diary in which Zobaida refers to his stay in Mysuru.

The authors of The Exile, the book about the life of Osama Bin Laden and also part of the team researching Zobaida’s life, Abbottabad Adrian Levy and Cathy Scott-Clark, visited the city, a few days ago, added the sources.

Zobaida was arrested by the Central Intelligence Agency’s (CIA) of the US in 2002. However, the CIA failed to submit charge sheet prompting Human Rights activists demanding his release.
