The district police have busted an illegal arms smuggling case with the arrest of 12 people here on Monday and recovered 20 country-made pistols and 49 live bullets.
The accused now under custody have been identified as --Altaf Mahibooba Valikara, Somanna Mallappa Agasara, Gurubasappa Siddanna Doddaganagera, Ganapathi Bhimashankara Virashetty, Ghouse Anees Sutara, Haider Moulisab Jalageri, Gaibu Hajisab Sarawada, Chandpira Mohammed Ghouse Inamadara, Sameer Razaksaab Yaragalla and Kailasa Arjuna Dekuna and Gowdappa Sharanappa Kookatanoora.
These details were provided by IGP Dr K Ramachandra Rao of the North Zone. The IGP added that preliminary investigations had revealed that an inmate of the Vijayapura darga jail called Ajaz Bande Nawaz Patel had befriended Bacchan Singh and Man Singh Sardar and Tanman Singh all of Madhya Pradesh and was running the illegal arms racket through the above accused. Police are investigating further.
