Of the 12 students, the condition of Kiran Kumar, Krishnappa, Umesh, Ramesh, Rajesh and Manjunath is stated to be critical.
The students had been served ‘puliyogare’ for breakfast and were given rice, ragi balls and rasam for lunch. At 3 pm, they experienced stomachache and diarrhoea, the students said.
They complained that a similar incident had occurred last week also.
The students were then taken to the hospital, said district social welfare officer Nataraj, who visited the hostel. Nataraj said that the hostel was not getting hygienic water, resulting in their illness. They have now been shifted to another building, he added.
