128th birth anniversary of Nalwadi observedCity celebrates spirit of its former ruler

A colourful procession marked the 128th birth anniversary of Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar on Thyagaraja road here on Monday.

The procession carrying the portrait of the former king was taken out by members of Urs Mandali in a chariot.

The procession passed through Agrahara circle, Gun House circle, New Sayyaji Rao road and culminated at K R Circle.The Mysore City Corporation also celebrated the birth anniversary of Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar with mayor M C Rajeshwari garlanding statue of the erstwhile ruler.

Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) commissioner C J Betsurmath and other staff participated in the laying the foundation stone for a concrete structure to cover the statue of Wadiyar at the MUDA premises. Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar had reigned the princely state of Mysore from 1902 to 1940.

He was regarded as one of greatest rulers as he conceptualised a civic body, which would maintain and develop the city.

Also the City Improvement Trust Board (CITB) was also formed by the ruler.
He was described by Mahatma Gandhi as Rajarishi.
