The state BJP on Monday lodged a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Karnataka, alleging that students as young as 14-15 years were being illegally enrolled in the voters' list.

In the complaint to CEO Sanjeev Kumar, BJP spokesperson S Suresh Kumar pointed out a specific instance wherein six students in Mudhol Assembly constituency in Bagalkot district who are below 18 years had been enrolled in the voters' list.

He has sought that action be initiated against officials responsible for the enrolment and that the names be removed from the list. As per electoral rules, only those above 18 years are eligible to vote. "It has come to our notice that such instances are happening in several other constituencies," Kumar stated.
