`15 lakh for tribal development

Integrated Tribal Development Project Co-ordinator Singarigowda has informed the same in response to a letter written by Prajaprabhutva Ulisi Andholana Vedike Convener Suma Nagesh who questioned the department with regard to implementation of programmes for the Scheduled Tribes.

ITDP officer said that the Taluk Panchayat Executive Officers have been asked to prepare a list of those ST families which do not have land of their own.“There are 289 tribal colonies in the district. Chikmagalur district has 247 ST families, Kadur has 392 families, Koppa has 669, Mudigere has 1,774, N R Pura has 374, Sringeri has 591 and Tarikere has 662 tribal families,” said Singarigowda adding that targets are being set under the Tribal Sub Project and accordingly cattle and buffaloes are being given to the tribal to encourage dairy farming.

“Comprehensive development of the tribal colonies is being given importance. All steps will be taken to provide infrastructure facilities in these colonies. Special proposal has been made to the government in this regard,” Gowda said adding that drinking water, road, bridges etc will be built.

The letter also read that a benchmark survey has been conducted to get more details about the tribals.
