With the villages receiving solar power supply, Kalanja, Nidle, and Shishila villages have become ‘Saura grama,’ said Belthangady Rotary Club President K Prathap Simha Nayak. Equipment worth Rs 30 lakh were given to the beneficiaries.

He said that the scheme is being implemented with the financial assistance of the Karnataka Vikasa Grameena Bank and Syndicate Bank. “Solar power can be renewed. It is environment-friendly and is helpful in the sustainable development of the villages. Solar lightings have lit the houses in remote villages,” opined Selco Managing Director Harish Hande.

“With the help of solar lighting, I can read at home,” said Saujanya, one of the beneficiaries. Another beneficiary Kavitha said: “My house was filled with darkness all these days. But now, there is light now.”
