Almost 5,000 people took part in a silent protest march here on Sunday, supporting the demand for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigation into the mysterious death of IAS officer D K Ravi.

Organised by Uttishta Bharatha, a Bengaluru-based voluntary organisation, the march was attended by people from a cross-section of society. Chethan Kumar, general secretary of the organisation, said: “Most of the participants work in the information technology sector. We want to mount pressure on the government. The common man is waiting.” The march was organised in association with ‘Public Movement’, a group of like-minded Bengalureans on Facebook, Kumar added.

Uttishta Bharatha, which also started an online petition on change.org demanding the CBI probe, plans to move court if the government does not respect “public sentiments.”

The petition on change.org is one of the fastest-growing petitions, according to Nida Hasan, Campaigns and Communications Manager, change.org. “Within a day of the petition being started on March 17, it received around one lakh signatures. Also, as many as 150 petitions have been started on the issue,” she added.
