The victims have been identified as Manjunath Puttaswamy (24), a BEd student of Jnanabharathi and driver Kitti Manjegowda (22) of Nelamangla.

On Saturday, Manjunath and nine of his friends from Bangalore visited Jog and other places and arrived at Murudeshwar at night. On Sunday, they went for a swim in the sea at Murudeshwar when the tragedy occurred.
Eyewitnesses’ account
Eyewitnesses said that while two of them drowned, the others managed to swim to the shore.
Local fishermen and the police launched a search operation to retrieve the bodies but could not trace them till late evening.
This incident has occured barely a week after three students, who had come on a visit, drowned in the sea.
