Deepa (18) of Geddalahatti in Channagiri taluk, Anita (19) of Chikkamegalageri (both nursing students at Davangere Government Nursing College) and attender, Jagadeesh (28) of Shamanur are the victims.
A team of 29 people including female health assistants undergoing training at Chigateri hospital, four lecturers and principal Kadaramma were on an excursion to Soolekere. Three teams returned safely from a trip on the coracle and the mishap occurred when the fourth team with six students and the attender was cruising through waters.
The oarsman shouted for help as soon as the coracle lost balance and people nearby succeeded in saving the lives of four. The bodies of Anita and Jagadeesh have been traced and search is on to fish out the body of Deepa.
