In a shocking incident, a 23-year-old woman was reportedly gang-raped by three persons, after assaulting her male friend, on the outskirts of the city, on Wednesday night. The accused are yet to be identified.
The incident took place near Lingambudhi Palaya, near here, around 10.30 pm. The unmarried woman was with her married friend when the incident took place. The woman had developed a friendship with the man, over Facebook.
The victims had visited the abandoned place in a private layout, in the area. The suspects who were consuming liquor attacked the man and later, the trio allegedly gang-raped the woman.
Inspector General of Police (Southers Range) Umesh Kumar, Superintendent of Police Amit Singh and others visited the spot. The police have registered cases under IPC Section 376 and 379 and are investigating the case.
