Twenty-nine couples, including an elderly couple around 60 years of age, withdrew their divorce cases in the Lok Adalat held here on Saturday.

Some of the divorce cases were more than five years old. Making use of the opportunity for meditation, during Lok Adalat, the couples reconciled and pledged to continue their wedded life. One of the reconciled couple had applied for divorce just two months after their marriage.

The reconciliation was achieved by the counselling offered in three Family Courts for the couples, who had applied for divorce.

Their cases were in various stages of trial. Once the couples agreed to reconcile, flower bouquets and sweets were presented by the court staff, said member secretary of the District Legal Services Authority Devaraja Bhoote.

Besides divorce cases, a 38-year-old property sharing case and 80 cheque bounce cases were solved on compromise.
