Thirthahalli: Deeksha R, a student of Vagdevi PU College in Thirthahalli, who had shared the first rank with Amoolya Kamath of Mangaluru, with 599/600 in science stream (PCMB), has topped the state after reevaluation.
Previously, she had scored centum in five subjects- English, Physics, Mathematics, Biology and 99 in Chemistry.
After the revaluation, Deeksha R has secured 100 marks in Chemistry and now she is the sole top-ranked student in the state.
Speaking to DH, Raghavendra Kalkura, father of Deeksha, who is serving as a teacher in a government high school at Megaravalli in Thirthahalli taluk, said, "We had applied for the scanned copy (photocopy) of the answer script to see where she lost one mark. Out of six questions, (four carrying 5 marks each and two 4 marks), the students had to answer four questions. But Deeksha answered all the six. The evaluator should have considered only the questions carrying five marks each. However, the three questions of five marks and one question of four marks were considered during the evaluation. So Deeksha got 99 out of 100 in Chemistry. The one mark was given to her during the reevaluation. I don't blame lecturers in this regard and such things do happen during the evaluation. I am glad that she got the 600 marks."
On CET, he said she has done well and she is confident of getting a seat in RV College of Engineering in Bengaluru to pursue a degree in engineering.
She is the daughter of Raghavendra Kalkura and Usha V, both teachers.
