<p>Shivamogga: Deeksha R, student of Vagdevi Pre-University College in Thirthahalli town, has shared the top rank with Amoolya Kamath of <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/mangaluru">Mangaluru</a>, with 599 marks in the science stream. </p><p>She is the daughter of Raghavendra Kalkura and Usha V, both are teachers.</p><p>When <em>DH</em> contacted, Raghavendra Kalkura, who is serving as teacher in government high school at Megaravalli in Thirthahalli taluk, said "we had anticipated 595 marks out of 600. But she got 599 and we are literally on cloud nine. She was not studying everyday. But she was studious and planned studies is the key to score well in examinations. I used to tell her which subject has to be studied when she had study holidays during the second PU examinations."</p><p>He said, she had scored 98.6 per cent in grade 10th (ICSE) Sahyadri school at Bettamakki in Thirthahalli taluk. She has appeared for JEE examinations and she would appear for CET next week. "We are hopeful that she will get a seat in a highly reputed PU college."</p><p>The College principal Mamata told <em>DH</em> that the college faculty and management are proud of the accomplishment of Deeksha. "She was a hard working and determined student. She did not attend tuition classes besides classroom teaching in the college. We are extremely happy that a student from a small town has topped the state in PU examinations."</p>
