Three children drowned in a quarry pit on the outskirts of Hoovinahadagali town on Wednesday.
The deceased have been identified as Tipu Sultan (13), Prabhu (12) and Ravi (12). All were students of the government school in MPP Nagar and were staying at Carmel Hostel.
According to police, the children left the hostel saying that they would go to school for collecting textbooks, but, stepped into the quarry pit for bathing. They were unable to fathom the depth of the pit and drowned in the shallow water. Their another friend, who had accompanied them, informed the hostel warden.
The bodies were fished out from the quarry pit and sent for post-mortem.
