 Three persons were killed and over 20 sustained injuries when a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus fell off the road into a farm land, on the Sagar-Jog road near Joginmutt in the taluk, on Friday morning.

Kiran Timmegowda, 33, a resident of Kumta, Nilesh Gopal Walke, 26, a resident of Mastikatte in Honnavar taluk and Masthemma Bhairugoud, 60, of Antaralli village in the taluk, are the dead.

Five of the 20 passengers injured in the accident are being treated at the Sagar government hospital while the rest have been discharged after administering first aid.

New to route

According to the police, the bus driver, who was relatively new to the route, lost control of the vehicle at a turn that led to the accident. The Kumta-bound bus was arranged to clear the festival rush.
