Several acres of forest were destroyed in a fire at Basavanakallu Betta in Nagamangala taluk on Wednesday.

According to the forest department, it was the handiwork of the miscreants, who have intentionally set fire to the forest, at P Neralakere, Tuppadamadu, Padavalapattana areas in the taluk.

The fire that was spotted near Kanana Brahma temple on Wednesday afternoon could not be brought under control. The fire spread to around 30 acres and the department personnel finally controlled it from spreading by night.

The forest department personnel alleged that the locals have been doing it intentionally and the incident was the fourth in the last week. The fire was doused immediately earlier, but it took more time on Wednesday due to heavy breeze and the fire spread fast destroying vegetation at around 30 acres.
