Deputy Director of the Department of Women and Child Welfare, Doraiswamy, told Deccan Herald that late at night, eight children complained of uneasiness, after taking the meals. Officials rushed to the juvenile home and shifted the children to hospital.
After a few more of the inmates complained of uneasiness, the other children at the juvenile home too were shifted to hospital, as a precautionary measure.
Officials of the district health department collected samples of the food prepared on Sunday night and sent them for laboratory tests to check whether the food was contaminated, the official said. Of the total 42 inmates who consumed the meals, 35 took ill and the rest were in good health, he said. Deputy Commissioner Sameer Shukla visited the juvenile home and inspected the facilities there.
