35 towns will get bypasses, says minister

Preparations are being made to develop bypasses around 35 towns in the State, Public Works Department (PWD) Minister H C Mahadevappa has said.

According to him, 15.45 km of state highways and 236.62 km of main roads in 13 districts of northern Karnataka are non-motorable, which would be improved this year. He gave the information on a question raised by Congress member Jayamala Ramachandra in the Legislative Council here on Tuesday.

Under the guidance of the Supreme Court, an action plan has been prepared to develop roads damaged by mining activities, on which more than Rs 3,000 crore collected would be spent, the minister added.
