The Amba Vilas Palace, apart from being a major tourist attraction, has now emerged as a favourite among netizens, thanks to the virtual tour provided by the Mysore Palace Board (MPB) on its website. Now, it plans to hook netizens to the Palace by introducing a 3D website.

The brainchild of deputy commissioner P S Vastrad and Mysore Palace Board (MPB) deputy director T S Subramanya, the 3D website of the Palace, which is expected to be inaugurated before Dasara this year, is set to draw in more number of tourists (virtual) into its folds.

Sanjay Ahuja of Software Guru, who has designed the website, said the new version would work on 3D enabled monitors. Using 3D enabled monitors and glasses, people can go into the details of carvings and paintings inside the Palace.

Ahuja said: “Each pillar of the Palace has a story to tell and each one of them have been captured and stored on the 3D website. Regular tourists to the Palace might just see the carving and walk past it. But they might not be able to get the complete details about the carvings or paintings.

The 3D website would give them exhaustive information, including textual details on the Palace.” The new website would also have 3D images of wrestling courtyard, marriage hall and other parts of the Palace.

He said details of temples on the Palace premises, puja rituals during Dasara and video of erstwhile ruler Jayachamaraja Wadiyar seated in the golden howdah participating in the procession have been featured on the website.

Meanwhile, the existing website offering virtual tour of the Palace has been receiving nearly two crore hits each month. MPB deputy director T S Subramanya said while the earlier website was receiving only 20 lakh hits per year, the virtual tour has boosted the presence of Palace on the net. In addition, the braille document providing details about the palace has also been sought after by visually-impaired.
