4 teachers killed as car rams tree

Four teachers were killed on the spot and another was grievously injured after the car they were travelling by rammed into a tree near Aniganahalli Gate in the taluk late on Tuesday night.

The deceased have been identified as C Chandrashekhara Gowda, president of the taluk Government Employees’ Association; G V Appaji Gowda, president of the taluk Primary School Teachers’ Association; K Siddappa, vice-president and treasurer, S N Mohan.

 Nataraj, the injured, has been admitted to Devaraj Urs Medical College Hospital, Kolar. All the five were returning from Bangalore after purchasing mementos for the taluk education convention scheduled for March 1 at Betamangala.The accident occurred after the driver of the car lost control over the vehicle and hit a milestone before ramming it into a roadside tree.

The police had a tough time extricating the bodies from the mangled remains of the vehicle and shifting them to hospital. They were kept at the government model higher primary school to allow people to pay their last respects. The last rites were performed at the respective native places of the teachers on Wednesday. A majority of the private and government schools remained closed.
