Miscreants abducted five members of the Bommanahalli Gram Panchayat (GP) in Sindhagi taluk of Bagalkot district, including four women, at Durgadevi Hill of Anegundi in Gangavathi taluk early Sunday morning.

GP president Shivamma Guranna Havalagi had taken the members on a trip after it was decided to move a no-confidence motion against her. The date for moving the motion is expected to be finalised shortly.

The abducted members are Sharanamma Sharanegowda Biradar, Sridevi Mahadevappa Pujari, Shashikala Shivanna Doddamani, besides the president herself.

They were all part of a 25-member group, including seven GP members and their family members. The suspects pushed out the driver of the vehicle in which the said members were sleeping and drove away the vehicle. The other members of the group were sleeping in a temple. A case has been registered at the Gangavathi rural police station.
