5 killed in Bidar accident

Five persons, including three women, were killed on the spot when a speeding sports utility vehicle (SUV) in which they were travelling rammed a stationary lorry from behind on National Highway-9 near Tadola village in Basavakalyan taluk of district in the wee hours of Monday.

The deceased are Srinivas, 40, his wife Roja, 35, Leelavati, 65, and Venukumari Kasturi, 85 and the driver of the vehicle, B Raju, 30, all residents of Vizianagaram district in Andhra Pradesh, police sources said. Two girls - Deepika, 8 and Reetika, 6 - were injured in the accident. They have been admitted to the government hospital in Basavakalyan for treatment, sources said.

The victims were on their way back home, after a pilgrimage to Shirdi in Maharashtra.
