The officials of the Transport department on Wednesday seized 50 private cabs which were operating in violation of the norms.

The crackdown comes few days after surprise checks conducted at the offices of Ola Cabs and Meru Cabs revealed several violations such as overcharging during peak hours and even plying without permits. The enforcement team led by Narendra Holkar, Joint Commissioner, seized the vehicles on Airport Road during the raid on Wednesday.

It was found that some cab operators were charging fares in excess of that fixed by the department. Almost all the cabs seized had no digital meters and some were operating as City Taxis with state permits. Some cabs did not have pollution control certificates.
