540 stalls attract visitors at Krishi Mela

The annual farming expo this time had 540 stalls showcasing the latest in agricultural technology, methodologies, organic produce from across the State. The thrust was on organic farmers and agricultural machinery.

Integrated farming

Kiosks proving information on integrated farming system, growing methods and usage of aromatic and medicinal plants, rabbit rearing, products developed Village Forest Committees drew maximum crowds.

Information cells where farmers can get details on all aspects including credit schemes had also been set up. National Egg Coordination Committee distributed 50,000 eggs to the visitors on the occasion.

A ragi malt vending machine developed by the Bakery Training Unit, Directorate of Extension, UAS, was another attraction.

“We plan to set up such units on M G Road, Commercial Street and other hubs in Bangalore City in a bid to encourage people to develop a taste for the nutritious ragi malt,” Dr S V Suresh of the training centre said.
