6 killed, 21 injured in bus-truck collision

Six senior citizens were killed on the spot, while 21 others were injured after a private bus in which they were travelling hit a truck parked on the road and toppled near Koliwada Cross in Annigeri on Saturday.

The victims are Vishwanath Mestri (76), Dinakar Mestri (74), Ramesh Jaipal (70), Simedha Jamakhandikar (65), Lavo Kelkar (65) and Suchitra Rahul (65).

Nineteen people, who sustained serious injuries, were shifted to KIMS, Hubballi, while the three others are being treated at a hospital in Annigeri. The victims hail from Mumbai and were on a week-long tour.

The bus, operated by Katyayini Travels, was heading to Hampi from Hubballi when the accident occurred around 6 am.

The police suspected negligence of the truck driver and cleaner in the accident. The duo absconded after the accident.
