Transport Minister Laxman Savadi on Sunday assured that the wages and benefits under the Sixth Pay Commission would be extended to the RTC workers.

Addressing a gathering after inaugurating a KSRTC drivers training centre and a depot at Basapur Gate in the taluk, the minister said, "The corporation borrowed Rs 1,900 crore from the government to pay the staff in these tough times. But a few employees struck work and went a step further and pelted stones at the RTC buses. It was a case of our people setting our house on fire," Savadi lamented.

A section of staff has issued a strike notice to the government saying that they would strike work from April 7.
