The six-foot sculpture is mounted on a six-foot high stone pedestal.

The entire project is jointly taken up by Udupi Nirmiti Kendra and district tourism department. Artists Purushottham Adve and Anil from Davangere and Harish Mallappanavar from Bangalore carved the unique sculpture of Mahatma.

Speaking on the occasion, Acharya said the venture is taken up to explore all available tourism potentials in the district.

The sole purpose behind the project is to throw open the tourist places of the district before public, thereby encouraging tourism, he added.

Malpe beach is one of the three places where Mahatma’s ashes were immersed. The Government has approved the proposal supporting the establishment of Saint Madhvacharya statue on the Malpe beach, he added.

Later, Home Minister gave away the ‘Parithoshaka Prashasthi’ to meritorious students in a programme organised by BJP District Yuva and Mahila Morcha. Office-bearers of the District Yuva Morcha were announced on the occasion.
