Bengaluru: Child Rights activists from the state have urged the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) to register a complaint regarding online trolling and harassment of a 10-year-old boy following his appearance on the TV show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepathi-17’ hosted by legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan.

In a letter to the commission, Nagasimha G Rao, child rights activist, said, “I am writing to bring to your urgent attention a distressing case of online trolling and harassment directed at a 10-year-old boy who recently appeared on a television programme hosted by renowned actor Amitabh Bachchan.

"The child, in his innocence, provided what has been perceived as a rude or inappropriate response during the show. However, it is evident that the boy, being only 10 years old, lacks maturity and understanding to appropriately respond to a figure of such stature and did not intend any malice. This incident has unfortunately led to widespread sharing of his images and videos on social media platforms, resulting in severe trolling, ridicule and cyber bullying”.

He said, “The relentless online harassment, including unauthorised dissemination of the boy’s photographs and personal details, is infringing upon his right to privacy and dignity, potentially causing long-term psychological harm.

“The boy is innocent and requires counselling and support rather than public shaming, which could scar him for life and affect his mental health, education and social development. I urge NCPCR to take immediate and decisive action in this matter. Investigate the sources of the trolling and hold accountable those individuals, groups or platforms responsible for spreading the content and inciting harassment”.
