The Aeronautical City of India, now, has a VIP aircraft. A Deha-villand 104 Devon aircraft used by the first Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru, besides former President of India - Babu Rajendra Prasad, former defence minister - V Krishna Menon, and the Ironman of India - Sardar Vallabhai Patel, finds a place in Bengaluru. It is hangared in Agragami VSM Aerospace AME Training School.
The Dehavilland 104 Dove alias Devon aircraft was used by the Indian Air Force as a VIP aeroplane. It had a carrying capacity of 10 people, including two crew members.
The aircraft was lying idle at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi, till it was acquired in 1993 from the Border Security Force in Yelahanka. It was put into shape and refurbished.
However, the Dove can’t take off, as it doesn’t possess an airworthiness certificate. It is now used by the students to get a hands-on learning experience.
