Pejawar mutt seer Vishveshateertha Swami, who is all set to ascend the Paryaya Peetha for the fifth time next year, performed the ‘Akki Muhurtha’ on the mutt premises amidst spiritual and religious rituals at 8.30 am on Wednesday.

The ceremony is the second in line of the four rituals that are performed by the seer before ascending the Paryaya throne. ‘Bale Muhurtha,’ ‘Akki Muhurtha,’ ‘Kattige Muhurtha’ and ‘Bhattha Muhurtha’ are the four rituals.

The pontiff ascends the Paryaya throne on January 18, 2016. Prayers were offered  to ‘Akki Mudi’ that was kept in the golden chariot marking the ceremony of ‘Akki Muhurtha.’

The Muhurtha signifies the accumulation of the rice and other cereals for the two years of Paryaya of the mutt. Although the prayer is offered to rice, it is symbolic in the ritual.

The Muhurtha would ensure the collection of all the cereals and initiates the symbolic gesture of collecting the donations for the expenses of feeding the devotees during the two-year Paryaya.
