Alert passengers averted a mishap after noticing smoke from a moving KSRTC Volvo bus between Bidadi and Ramanagar on Sunday. The Airavatha bus was on its way to Mysore from Bangalore and was filled to capacity.

Smoke was noticed in the rear portion of the bus, said Sudheer, a resident of Saraswathipuram in Mysore and an assistant executive engineer at the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited, who was on the bus along with his family.

A passenger in the backseat raised an alarm, forcing the driver to stop the bus and park it on roadside. The passengers were made to alight from the bus. After an inspection, it emerged that the pipe connecting the diesel tank to the engine had been damaged, causing leakage of fuel.

Alternative KSRTC buses were arranged for the passengers to reach Mysore. Sudheer said the bus had left the satellite bus station in Bangalore at around 7.15 pm.
