Speaking to reporters after the inaugural ceremony of a live interventional cardiac workshop and continued medical education (CME) programme at Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) here on Saturday, he said the issue of infrastructure development at government hospitals would be discussed with Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa.

“We are thinking to purchase modern equipment required to treat diseases related to heart, kidney, pancreas etc. Better treatment facilities will be made available in districts, so that the pressure on Bangalore could be reduced,” he explained.

As per the Medical Council of India (MCI) approval, 996 MBBS seats are available at 10 government medical colleges, 808 seats at private 20 private universities, and 128 seats at nine deemed colleges. Vacant seats will be filled in next round of CET counselling. For post-graduate courses, 190 seats at six government medical colleges and 186 seats at 18 private colleges are available under the State Government’s quota. For PG diploma courses, 185 seats are available under the State quota, he explained.
