The state government has announced another sop for the poor under the Mukhyamantri Anila Bhagya scheme.

Under the scheme, the state government had announced that a LPG connection will be provided to below poverty line (BPL) families along with two-burner stoves and regulators. Now, the beneficiaries will also get two gas refills free.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah chaired a meeting of officials from the department of Food and Civil Supplies on Monday to review the launch and implementation of the scheme.

After the meeting, Food and Civil Supplies Minister U T Khader told reporters that the scheme will be launched by the end of October.

“We will call for online applications by the end of this month. The scheme will be implemented from December onwards,” he said. Around 15 to 20 lakh beneficiaries will be covered under Anila Bhagya scheme. The government, which has set aside Rs 1,200 crore for the scheme, will be spending Rs 4,040 per connection.

Khader said that Karnataka had already sought an additional supply of one lakh cylinders from the Ministry of Petroleum for implementation of the scheme.
