Political rivalry claimed the life of one more JD(S) worker in Mandya district on Saturday night.

The police said Harish alias Gunda (32), son of Rajegowda of Marukanahalli in KR Pet taluk, was hacked to death by five men when he was celebrating New Year with his friends. As many as four JD(S) workers have been reportedly murdered in the district in the past 10 days.

As soon as the news of Harish’s murder spread, the houses of Rakshit and Yogesh who were allegedly part of the gang that attacked the JD(S) worker, were torched. Windows and doors of their houses were damaged, the police said.

As tension prevailed, the police heightened security at the village. IGP (Southern range) Bijay Kumar Singh, Mandya SP Ravi D Channannavar and other officials visited the village. One of Harish’s relatives alleged that the murder was carried out at the behest of a Congress leader.

Recently, JD(S) workers Kumar of Benamanahalli in Malavalli taluk and Nandeesh and Muthuraj of Thopanahalli in Maddur taluk were allegedly murdered over political enmity.
