The bus services from the border town to neighbouring Andhra Pradesh have resumed after a long gap of 73 days.

Pavagad taluk is surrounded by parts of Andhra Pradesh and residents have to use the roads in the neighbouring state to reach the district centre of Tumkur and even the State capital, Bangalore.

However, movement of vehicles on AP roads was blocked in the wake of Samaiyykhandhra agitation. This impediment in transportation had badly affected trade and commerce in Pavagad taluk. The tourist inflow to the Shani temple in Pavagad had taken a severe beating due to non-availability of transport services. Apart from private players, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation too suffered huge losses due to suspension of services.

However, over the past three days, the APSRTC buses have been plying from Penukonda, Hindupur, Madakashira and Kalyanadurga to parts of Pavagad taluk. The restoration of movement of goods has brought down the prices of vegetables and other items of  daily necessity.  The residents were worried over prolonged suspension of transport facility.

Officegoers and students, in particular, were severely affected due to non-availability of transport.
