Dalit leaders urge the ASI Department and the State government to take initiative to preserve the Mayilankote, which is built by Dalits. They demand that renovation works should be undertaken to bring back the ancient glory of Mayilankote. It is estimated that the fort might have been built in 14 th century.

The Mayilankote of Swarga is one among the three similar forts built by Dalits in the region. The Alinja Mayilankote of Belinja in Badiyadka and Mayilankote of Kuntaru near Mulleria too are in dilapidated condition due to the negligence of authorities concerned.

The ancient structures of the Swarga fort is completely covered with weeds and trees due to negligence.

The fort in Swarga is spread across 5 acres of land on top of a hill. The fort and the land, which were in Dalits’ possession, is with the government now.

Dalits are still residing near the fort at Kuntaru. Dalit organisation members opine that only government can preserve the forts in the region.
