The building was constructed due to the efforts of MLA V Muniyappa when he was the minister for mines and geology, for the benefit of farmers.

Sadly, the building is now a breeding place for pigs, stray dogs and a haven for beggars. It also serves as play house for street children who too have contributed to its ruin.

Apathetic attitude

The apathetic attitude of the APMC which is responsible for the maintenance of the building and government is the main reason for the bad condition of the market, a farmer claimed.
The place is also a sanctuary for miscreants who use the premises for illegal activities during the night, said one of the residents. The farmers of the region will be greatly benefited if the Auxiliary market is converted into a full-fledged APMC market by utilising the vacant land in Santhemaidan, suggested a farmer from the taluk.

The farmers will be able to sell their produce here and even save transport cost, he added.
The officials concerned in the government should take up the cause and should convert the Auxiliary market into APMC market, said residents living in the vicinity of the market.

They said that it would be beneficial to farmers, wholesale dealers, traders and workers. Apart from this it will also provide employment opportunity to many people, they added.
